Story

Handcrafting Wine is like writing a hit song.

David Moyse an original band member of Air Supply, one of the most popular supergroups of the early 80’s, participated in crafting, performing and touring the globe some of the most popular and enduring hit songs of our time.

Invited by viticulturist and master wine maker Paul Petagna to help with vintage several years running, David and his wife Lydia became immersed in the process: earth yielding its bounty during harvest, heady aromas of freshly crushed fruit, wild yeast ferment then finally, tasting the vibrant flavours of a new vintage fresh from the press.

In 2012 with the purchase of a property elevated on Sellicks Hill over looking Silver Sands beach and the McLaren Vale basin that included a modest Grenache vineyard and 500 olive trees, saw the beginning of a journey into hand-crafted winemaking.

By 2016 under Paul’s ever watchful eye and palate, a decision was made to craft their own wine.

MOYSE WINES was birthed.

Early to bud and late to ripen, Grenache produces a refined wine of plush fruit, medium acidity and low to moderate tannins.

With a pale ruby/garnet hue, not unlike that of Nebbiolo, its flavour subtly reflects the unique conditions of each year as sun-soaked fruits ripen on the rolling slopes looking out to the ocean.

Best fruit flavour is produced through organic inspired vine management in both terroir and vine, hand picked in the cool of the day or evening, lightly crushed with an amount of stem included in the must during wild yeast fermentation, hand-plunging and basket pressed.

Delicious at room temperature or chilled, opening up beautifully when decanted.

Each years’ vintage yields its own distinct personality.

A versatile wine complementing any cuisine from Mediterranean to Asian to the warm spicier flavours of the Middle East or an an Aussie barbecue, cheese platter or tapas, Moyse Grenache is the perfect accompaniment.
